Hi! My name is Naveed A. Khan (you can call me Nav, if you like), and yes that Our Lady Peace song was definitely written about me (not really, but I like to think that it was). I'm a writer and educator, born in Bangladesh and raised in Canada. I'm often asked what inspires me to write and why/how long I've been writing. The answer is always the same. I write as a means to investigate, understand, and document the world around me. That includes people, places, thoughts, emotions, and world events that are important to me. I've been writing for a long time, for as long as I can remember, really, and it's definitely not something I've taken up recently.
Music has always been a huge influence on my writing. A lot of my earlier work is reminiscent of styles and content relative to hip hop music and culture, including the likes of Eminem, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Shad K, just to name a few. While my writing has taken several different forms over time, I always cherish the musical roots of my writing, which has undoubtedly paved the way for different styles and forms and allowed room for experimentation.
I studied English at York University, immediately after which I returned to pursue a degree in Education. It is my personal mission to spread the love of literature through teaching, and to empower young minds to realizing their dreams and challenging the status quo.
Thank you for dropping by, and I hope you enjoy your stay!
